Grass fed   beef

Picture
 Lean. Tender. Finished.
Those are the three high notes we endeavor to hit with our beef. We
work hard to create a consistent product that is beefy, but not overly strong flavored, tender, yet with texture, and without lots of extra
trim.

We raise Lim-Flex, which means Limousin crossed with another breed, usually Angus. We have Lim-Flex, Lim-Shorthorn, and one Charolais and then bred back to a registered Limousin bull. Our steers finish out at approximately 24 months, with the last three months focused on a high protein diet of forbes and legumes as well as farm grown three-way hay. Due to the drought, we are currently only feeding out a few animals for ourselves and long time customers. If you'd like to be on a list to hear about whole animal shares please email us at casarosafarms  @  gmail

Baa Baa Red Sheep
Our California Red Sheep are our primary grazing tool. Using electro-net, they can graze areas that would be impractical or too sensitive for cows or pigs. Our sheep do best with a quick, concentrated graze through an area, as they are browsers as well as grazers. Our sheep also benefit from eating olive foliage, and love cleaning out scrubby areas. Our sheep prefer olive leaves over any other kind of food. This creates meat high in oleic acids and good fats, as well as makes the animals healthier. We slaughter at 1 year of age and have a never-never antibiotic policy with meat lambs. California Red Sheep are a stable hybrid of Tunis sheep and Barbados sheep, developed in Winters and Davis in the early 1960's. They have their own registry and are considered rare. Because they are bred from two hot weather sheep breeds, they tolerate hot and dry weather very well. They also breed year round.

Pasture  raised   poultry

Picture
Sunshine. Water. Fresh Food. Room to Roam.
Most poultry in the US is raised in confinement. We have fresh pasture available at all times, shade, and opportunity to scratch and peck and roost. We raise both Pekin ducks and laying hens on pasture. We have farm fresh truly golden yolked chicken and duck eggs available for direct purchase from the farm.

If it bothers you how poultry are raised  then you may want to consider buying your poultry or eggs from a pasture based producer. The costs to raise a bird on pasture are usually about double that of  a conventionally raised bird inside. It takes a lot more labor to move chickens around on a pasture and protect them from predators. We also feed only GMO free feed, so you will be paying more for a chicken or eggs. If you want a change, the change has to start with you!
